For many homeowners spring cleaning can seem time consuming and overwhelming because there are so many items to cross off the list. Home experts recommend making the bigger items on the list a higher priority. This includes the rooms and items in your home that you use the most.
One of the best ways to start organizing and cleaning your home is by cleaning out those closets. To tackle your closet organization, first clean out any clothes and accessories that you no longer wear. Once this is completed, you can organize your remaining items a few different ways; either by color, by how you get dressed in the morning, or by type of clothing item. Many people that have an organized closet find that it carries over into the organization of the rest of their home.
Cleaning your carpets can also make a significant impact. Many homeowners don’t realize how dirty their carpet gets until they’ve actually cleaned them. As with the carpets, cleaning the tile and grout in your kitchen and bathrooms can also drastically improve the appearance of your home. It’s important to use a cleaner that is labeled “neutral pH” or for those that like to use a homemade cleaner, a baking soda and water mixture also does the trick.
The kitchen is one of the most frequently used rooms in many households and with frequent use often comes frequent mess. When creating your spring cleaning to-do list, add removing stains from countertops and appliances to the top of it. With stainless steel appliances use a wax-based aerosol spray to help them shine, wiping them off with a lint-free cloth. For countertop stains, depending on what type of stain it is, a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water or ammonia and water can usually make your counters stain-free.
Lastly, to make your home feel like it’s really had a spring cleaning overhaul, remove stains and odors from upholstery using a vinegar and water mixture, or if your budget allows, switch out some of your current textiles and colors with new, updated ones. Doing so will definitely make your home look and feel clean and fresh.
